Windhoek, Namibia – The recently concluded ImpactLab Hackathon, held from April 22-26 in collaboration with the Namibian University of Science and Technology (NUST), Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC), and Schoemans, was a remarkable event that showcased the bright and innovative potential of NUST students from the Faculty of Computing and Informatics. 🌟 The hackathon aimed to challenge students to create cutting-edge, tech-centric solutions to address socio-economic issues such as financial literacy, youth unemployment, and rural economic development. 🚀

The event was hosted at the HTTPS building at NUST and was live-streamed on Facebook, providing a virtual platform for a wider audience to follow the team presentations and witness the students’ innovative work. The students were divided into five teams, each comprising three members, who worked diligently over several days to develop their projects, all leading up to the pitching event in front of an esteem panel of judges and invited audience members.

The students showed not only their coding and programming skills but also their creativity and ability to tackle real-world problems with technology. On the final day hackathon the teams presented their ideas to a panel of judges who assessed the projects based on criteria such as innovation, impact, feasibility, and technical quality. Ultimately, three winners emerged from the competition.

The ImpactLab Hackathon not only highlighted the talent and innovation within the NUST student community but also demonstrated the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in addressing socio-economic challenges. By providing a platform for students to apply their skills in a real-world context, the hackathon fostered an environment of growth and learning.

The event’s success would not have been possible without the support and partnership of NUST, MTC, and Schoemans. As the winning teams continue to refine and develop their projects, their innovative solutions hold the potential to make a meaningful impact on society. The hackathon serves as an inspiring example of how technology and education can work together to address complex challenges and drive progress.
