An initiative by Schoemans

EduPrint Namibia is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by Schoemans, designed to address one of the most overlooked challenges in the Namibian education system: access to reliable and affordable printing and photocopying facilities. By donating multifunction printers to disadvantaged schools, EduPrint Namibia aims to empower educators, support learners, and help bridge the educational resource gap between urban and under-resourced communities.
The Challenge: The Printing Divide in Education
Across Namibia, many schools—particularly those in remote, rural, and highly disadvantaged urban areas—struggle with limited or no access to printing facilities. This challenge has major consequences:
- High Costs: Teachers are often required to travel long distances to commercial printers, paying out of pocket or relying on already stretched school budgets.
- Limited Access: Many schools operate without functional printers or photocopiers, making basic administrative and academic tasks difficult.
- Impact on Learning Quality: Without printed worksheets, tests, or revision materials, teachers are forced to rely heavily on chalkboard teaching and verbal instruction.
- Educational Inequality: The lack of access deepens the divide between well-resourced urban schools and under-equipped rural schools.
The Solution: EduPrint Namibia
EduPrint Namibia responds directly to this challenge by leveraging Schoemans’ expertise in office solutions, automation, and technology.
Each year, Schoemans will donate five (5) multifunction printers to carefully selected high-need schools across Namibia. These are reliable, previously loved printers that are well-suited for demanding school environments.
EduPrint Namibia follows a holistic support model designed to ensure long-term impact and sustainability:
- Technology Donation: Provision of multifunction printers to eligible schools.
- Consumables Support: A once-off supply of toner and essential consumables, with service level agreements (SLAs) available on request.
- Training: Designated school staff members, referred to as the EduPrint Operator, receive training on proper operation and basic maintenance.
- Technical Support: Ongoing maintenance and breakdown support by Schoemans technicians, as outlined in applicable SLAs.
Aligning with National Development Goals
EduPrint Namibia aligns with Namibia’s national education objectives and contributes directly to Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education. The initiative also reinforces Schoemans’ commitment to using technology as a driver for social upliftment and national development.
School Selection Criteria
To ensure maximum and measurable impact, schools are selected through a transparent, application-based process.
Need-Based Criteria (Priority)
- Demonstrated lack of, or non-functional, on-site printing and photocopying facilities.
- Location in remote, rural, or highly disadvantaged urban areas.
- High learner enrolment relative to existing printing capacity.
- Submission of supporting documents confirming the cost and logistical burden of outsourced printing.
Impact & Sustainability Criteria
- Availability of a dedicated, secure, and dry space to house the equipment.
- Reliable electrical supply and suitable infrastructure.
- Commitment from the school principal to assign a responsible staff member or trained volunteer to manage day-to-day operations and supplies.
Partnership Criteria
- Agreement to adhere to Schoemans’ maintenance and servicing schedules.
- Preference for schools that allocate limited printing capacity for essential community use.
Only five schools are selected annually, ensuring focused support and sustainable outcomes.
Governance and Accountability
Successful schools enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Schoemans, outlining responsibilities related to equipment use, care, maintenance, and reporting. This ensures transparency, accountability, and responsible long-term use of the donated equipment.
